Over my 20+ years of making websites, the process of website creation has become pretty straightforward to me. However, not everyone grew up a computer nerd like me.
There are actually quite a few different things that you need to think about before you take the plunge into making a website. There are many steps to follow from the idea stage, to the final functional website. In this post series, I will share an overview of the steps involved in the website creation process.
It can be a confusing and daunting process to get your website up and running. Some people (not me) will try to take advantage of this confusion and talk you into things that you don’t need. Having a basic understanding of what is involved in the process can ensure that you end up with a website that suits your needs.
In the next few months, I’m going to write a series of posts that will explain the entire process of making a website, in Winnipeg (or any other city on earth.)
These posts will be aimed at website beginners—people with little to no experience at making websites. In this series of posts, I will explain step by step what you need to do to set up your site and actually make it work for you.
I think we’d all agree that there’s no point in spending a good chunk of money to make a website if no one comes to your site.
To make a website, you’ll need:
- a domain
- website software
- a theme/template
- website hosting
- security/backups
- search engine optimization (SEO)
- updates
- SSL certificate
- e-commerce security
- e-mail campaigns from Mailchimp or similar
- and more!
So stay tuned for post 1: Buying and setting up your domain.
